A family is displaced after a fire causes $50,000 in damage to their home.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Nancy Crist says crews reported to a residence in the 3900 block of Everett St. around 5 pm Tuesday after receiving calls of a blaze in the back of the home.

A man who lived in the home told investigators he was smoking on the back porch before the fire started.

Crist said that due to high winds, any kind of a small ember left on the deck could have started the blaze.

The fire was extinguished with the fire not breaching the home.

The Red Cross helped relocate the family.
