The record flooding last year and COVID-19 this year, Nebraska’s beef producers have taken a one-two punch, according to National Cattlemen Beef Association.
Despite the recent struggles, NCBA Division Chair Buck Wehrbein said at Friday’s gubernatorial COVID-19 briefing he’s optimistic about the industry’s future.
“Talking about the one-two punch, if you’ve ever been in a scrap, you come out of that with a black eye maybe and a fat lip, but you don come out of it,” said Wehrbein. “We will come out of this.
Wehrbin added that he wants customers to know that the Nebraska beef that they get is the same high-quality product it has always been.
Governor Pete Ricketts also took time at the briefing to sign a proclamation declaring May of 2020 beef month in Nebraska.
“It’s always a privilege for me to recognize the men and women that produce the beef here in our state,” said Ricketts.
