A man is behind bars after attempting to cash a stolen check.
The Lincoln Police Officer Erin Spilker says officers were sent to the Lobo City Mex at 300 block N 27th. around 6:30 PM Wednesday after the owner reported a man attempting to cash a check from a construction company.
“The owner recognized that he had a check cashed from the same company the day before from a different customer,” said Spilker. “He decided to compare the signatures and was suspicious.”
Before calling officers, the owner called the owner of the construction company who confirmed checks were stolen from his company on April 16th.
When police arrived they contacted 29-year-old Brendan Frey, who fled from the store and officers, damaging a sliding door on the way out.
Frey was located a short while later and arrested Frey for Resisting Arrest, Obstructing a Police Officer, Criminal Mischief, and Theft by Deception.
An investigation is ongoing
“This is great work by the business in checking the status of the check and stopping a criminal from getting away with unearned money,” said Spilker.
