Off-Duty NSP Trooper Assaulted While Investigating Hit-and-Run

An off-duty Nebraska State Patrol trooper is assaulted while investigating a hit-and-run.

Lincoln Police officer Erin Spilker says at around 11 am Monday, an off-duty trooper in plain-clothes and in his personal vehicle observed a vehicle collide with another vehicle in the parking lot of a gas station at 27th and Porter Ridge Road.

The trooper called in the hit-and-run to NSP dispatch and followed the suspect vehicle until it stopped near 28th and Brummel Street.

“The passenger got out and walked toward the trooper’s vehicle,” said Spilker.

The trooper showed the passenger his badge and then made contact with the driver, 27-year-old Korey Fillmore.

“Fillmore advanced towards the trooper and struck him in the head with a fist,” said Spilker. “Fillmore attempted to strike the trooper again, however, the trooper avoided that punch and took Fillmore to the ground.”

After 5 minutes of fighting, Lincoln Police officers arrived to back up the trooper Fillmore was arrested for assault on a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident and  DUI.

Spilker adds Fillmore had a BAC of  .230. The legal limit in Nebraska is a BAC of  .08.

The trooper injuries were minor and he did not need medical attention.
