The Nebraska National Guard continues to do its part to assist the state during the pandemic.

At Wednesday’s gubernatorial COVID-19 press briefing, Ricketts said he’s extremely proud of the men and women of the Guard and how versatile they’ve been since the pandemic started.

“They’ve been providing logistics and planning support, they’ve been working to distribute food to food banks, they’ve been helping us with testing,” said Ricketts. “The work that they do is just amazing and we should all be very very proud of the folks who join the National Guard.”

Adjutant General of the Nebraska National Guard, Major General Daryl Bohac said there were around 400 airmen and soldiers on duty Wednesday.

“That tops the peak from last year’s flood response,” said Bohac, who added that every one of the troops deployed during the pandemic volunteered. “We’ve not ordered anyone into duty.”

Bohac says the guard has deployed six mobile testing units, given out millions of face masks and gloves, and has distributed over 90-thousand lbs of food products among other projects.
