Should Lincoln Police Officers be able to display their tattoos while on duty?

The Lincoln Police Department is asking for your help in finding an answer.

Over the next six weeks, officers will be allowed to display their ink while on duty in a sort of experiment.

Sergeant Brad Junker supports the movement and says allowing officers to show their tattoos would help them connect with residents.

“I think when they see somebody that has a visible tattoo and if they have a sleeve tattoo or something, I think it gives them something they can connect on right away,” said Junker. “Hey, this is a person that could be like me. They have tattoos like me.”

Junker adds that a permanent change could also help with recruitment, especially for potential recruits worries about having to cover up during summer.

Residents are encouraged to share their opinions on the LPD Facebook page, where officers supportive of a change in policy will share stories about their tattoos.
