Local health officials unveil a new data-driven tool to help you understand what the risk the community faces against COVID-19.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird says the city’s unified command center has created the COVID-19 Risk Dial.

“This dial helps guide us forward in the coming months and it will provide the public with a data-driven approach that goes beyond the cold calculus of whether or not there is a ventilator or an ICU bed waiting for you if your sick,” Baird said at her daily news update.

It is a visual, color-coded dial where each sector has details on protecting you and your family.

The data is determined by a slough of factors:

  • Number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 Cases
  • Positivity Rate
  • Test Availability
  • Health Department Capacity
  • Hospitalization Capacity
  • Personal Protective Equipment Availability

“We hope the COVID Risk Dial will be a useful tool for you,” Scott Holmes with the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department says. “It will help each of us make informed choices on how to protect your health and the health of everyone in our community.”

The dial has a set of color for each stage of the pandemic and in that color comes guidance on how to keep your family safe.

It’s even split up even further for people in vulnerable populations, inside your home and outside.
