Nebraska has received its allotment of antiviral medication making headlines for its ability to speed the recovery of people infected with COVID-19.

At Wednesday’s gubernatorial COVID-19 media briefing, Governor Pete Ricketts says the state has received 400 vials of Remdesivir from the federal government.

“That will serve, approximately, I think we’ve just discerned about 50 people maybe,” said Ricketts.

Ricketts said Nebraska Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Gary Anthone, will put together a team that will decide which patients get the medication.

Ricketts did stress that the medication would likely be reserved for those who have been put on ventilators due to the disease.
