A Lincoln State Senator is calling for change amidst protests over police brutality and racial injustice across the country.

District 25 Representative Suzanne Geist tells KLIN News recent events shows there is a much-needed improvement.

“If I don’t admit that and start thinking in light of that, then I’m not helping anything.  I’ve become part of the problem and not the solution.”

Geist is a republican who spent her childhood growing up in the south. Her father was the first white male on the school board to favor desegregation.

In a 9-part Tweet, she says she doesn’t have the answers but is willing to listen and act for long-term change.

Geist sasy our country does face a racial justice issue and it’s time to be part of the change.

“I have missed it.  I have missed that they live in fear.  They raise their children differently than we do. I’m not casting dispersions at any group, any agency and I’m not anti-law enforcement.  This is a problem,” she says.”

She finished by saying, “I certainly don’t have the answers, but I’m listening. I’m willing to learn. I’m willing to act. Not for the moment, but for long-term institutional change.”
