Lincoln Police report their first confirmed case of COVID-19.

Officer Erin Spilker says the infected officer was tested for the virus Thursday, June 4th, and received their results Sunday, June 7th.

She says the officer decided to get tested as a precaution after working during Lincoln protests.

“At this time we have no other employees who have tested positive and will update the public if that changes,” said Spilker.

Spilker says the employee has been in self-isolation since receiving the positive results and other employees in contact with the employee have been encouraged to get tested.

Additionally, the areas the employee had been in contact with have been cleaned.

She stressed that LPD has been taking the spread of the virus seriously and has implemented several precautions such as an increase in remote work,  increased video conferencing, and regular cleaning of facilities.
