Arrest Made In Violent Liquor Store Robbery

Lincoln Police were called to the U Stop at 110 W O Street around 11 p.m. Sunday for an assault

A 20-year-old employee told police that a man came into the store to buy alcohol  The man wanted to buy more alcohol than the store allows to be sold to a single person per shift.  The man became upset and started swinging at the employee, hitting his head several times.  The man then took the employee’s phone, headphones and a jacket and left.

A 37-year-old witness was in the store at the time and SW the assault and told police he tried to intervene when he saw the employee was unconscious on the ground.  The suspect then hit the man and knocked him from his wheelchair.  Both victims showed signs of assault.

Police were able to track the suspect, 37-year-old Eric Eggleston who was found at Sun Valley Blvd on w O Street inside a tent.  Eggleston had blood on his hands and a machete next to him.  Eggleston got out of the tent but started fighting with officers.  After the struggle, Eggleston was booked for robbery, obstructing a peace officer and 3rd-degree assault.
