Lincoln Man Booked For Assault Connected To Earlier Home Burglary

Lincoln Police responded to an assault call on Saturday, August 22nd just after 7 p.m. at 19th and Euclid.  They found a man bleeding from his face and he reported that 38 year old Michael Beard had assaulted him and then ran.
An hour later, police received a call that there was a man laying in a back yard of a home at 19th and Prospect.  Officers found Beard and took him into custody.
During the investigation, they determined Beard was also wanted in a burglary on August 14th at 55th and High Street.  Someone broke into that home through a window and removed a safe containing jewelry, coins and prescription medication  They also reported that a 2007 Toyota Solara was missing.  Officers then processed the scene and fingerprints were submitted to the ID lab. The loss is estimated at about $20,000.  The vehicle was found abandoned an hour later at 54th and Melrose.  The lab analyzed the fingerprints and determined they belonged to Beard.  Several coins had been pawned by Beard.
When Beard was in custody, they also found a pipe containing methamphetamine reside.  When they were walking Beard to the cruiser, he became aggressive and started kicking an officer in the legs and chest.  The officer had minor injuries but did not need medical attention.
Beard was booked for assault on a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, assault and burglary.
