Lincoln Police were called to the 1300 block of N 25th Street on February 9th for a shooting. Officers found a 28 year old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim told police he was shot by a man he knew after an argument and an attempted robbery.
On February 10th, officers found the suspect, 29 year old Joseph Mitchell at the Microtel Inn at 25th and Fairfield. There was a warrant for his arrest and he was taken into custody. He gave police permission to search his hotel room and vehicle. During the search, a handgun was found inside his vehicle. Mitchell was then booked for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, pandering and the warrant for forgery.
The firearm and shell casing found at the scene were sent to the state lab. It was determined the shell casing from the shooting came for the gun in Mitchell’s vehicle On Tuesday, August 25th, Mitchell was arrested for 2nd degree assault. He was still in jail on the charges filed last February.
