Nebraska Election Officials Warn Against Ballot Harvesting

By News Sep 30, 2020 | 11:29 AM

Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen is warning the state’s voters of ballot harvesting.

“If you’re going to have someone else take your ballot in or put it in the mail, give it to a trusted person, a trusted relative, a close friend not to third parties you don’t really know,” Evnen said at a Wednesday morning press briefing.

Evnen says ballot harvesting is when a third-part takes your ballot or persuades to help you vote for someone or something they have a vested interest in.

“Be careful that you don’t get subjected to undue influence.  ‘Here I’ll help you fill that out.  Let me help you fill that out and I’ll take that in for you.’ No, fill it out with discussions with trusted people you know,” Even said.

He added vote in person, vote by mail or drop your ballot off at a collection boss to ensure your vote counts.
