Lincoln Police also offer these other safety tips.

If you are someone who frequents the trails, consider your personal safety habits.  Determine if personal safety equipment is a good choice for you and educate yourself on its use.  Try not to run alone.  During this time of year the sun is setting earlier and rising later.  This can make some parts of the trail hidden by darkness.  Consider using headlamps or other lights.  Carry your phone with you in case you need to call for help.  Tell someone when you are leaving for a run and when you expect to get back.
