Lincoln Man Charged with Kidnapping, Physical & Sexual Assault

A woman is recovering after an assault by her boyfriend followed by a kidnapping at knifepoint.

Police were called to a hospital on October 9th at 7:30 p.m.  A 32 year old woman reported that morning, 29 year old Joshua Salazar had held her against her will with a knife for several hours at her home.  He also assaulted her by punching her in the face and breaking her nose and punctured her with a knife several times.  She also reported she was sexually assaulted by Salazar who threatened to kill her and her children.

Salazar then forced the woman and their 2 year old child into a car and drove around Lincoln at knifepoint.  The woman feared for her life and that of her child.  After several hours, the woman was let go and and she went to a hospital.  Police say her injuries are consistent with what she described.  While seriously hurt, she will recover.

On October 10th at  p.m., officers saw Salazar riding a bike near 53rd and Knox.  When approached, Salazar ran.  Investigators saw Salazar reach into his waistband and he stopped running, turned around and showed a large knife.  He than advanced at officers with the knife pointed at them saying he was going to kill them.  he then started to run in their direction.  Investigators were able to retreat enough to retrieve a less than lethal shotgun while others negotiated with Salazar to end the situation peacefully.

Salazar then moved into a back yard and said he had a gun.  He then pointed a laser at an investigator.  Negotiations continued and then when Salazar put the knife this throat, several less than lethal impact rounds (bean-bags) were used causing Salazar to fall to the ground.  Officers then  As officers approached Salazar, he was observed to have the knife under him.  Officers used a Taser application to safely remove the knife and get Salazar into custody without further incident at 7:15 pm.

During a search of Salazar’s person, a total of 2.0 grams of methamphetamine in two separate packages were located.   Salazar was treated at a local area hospital for minor injuries before being lodged at the jail.  Salazar was arrested for two counts of Kidnapping, 1st Degree Sexual Assault, 2nd Degree Domestic Assault, two counts of Attempted 2nd Degree Assault on an Officer, six counts of Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person, Resist Arrest with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Salazar was also arrested on two local misdemeanor warrants.
