Lincoln Police were called to the U-Stop at 610 S 10th at 11:30 p.m. on December 2nd to investigate a report of a man in the store throwing things around and holding a knife. When officers arrived they saw the man with the knife refusing to drop it. Officers tried to convince him to put it down but he refused. The man then started grabbing items to create a barrier between him and the officers. They used a taser and the man was taken into custody.
An officer than spoke with the employee who reported the man had been in the store for about 45 minutes. The employee said the man pulled out oa knife and started stabbing items throughout the store and then started a fire in a garbage can that had to be put out with a fire extinguisher.
Police identified the man as 32 year old Martin Markvicka.and inside pocket they found a bag with a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Markvicka was booked for 21st degree arson, criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance.
