Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) announced that seven more residents have died from COVID-19, the highest number of deaths reported in a single day since the pandemic began. The total number of deaths in Lancaster County is now 110. Thirty-four of those deaths were in November, and 31 deaths have been reported since December 1. Twenty of the 31 December deaths were in long-term care facilities.
The deaths included a man in his 70s who was in a long-term care facility; two men and one woman in their 80s, all in long-term care facilities; and three individuals in their 90s – a man and a woman who were in long-term care facilities and a man who was hospitalized.
On behalf of the City, Mayor Gaylor Baird expresses condolences to their families and friends.
“Sadly, we continue to lose members of our community – relatives, friends, neighbors,” said Health Director Pat Lopez. “We are working with all sectors, including long-term care facilities, which care for some of our most vulnerable residents. However, we must all take the necessary precautions to protect everyone in our community and our health care system.”
