SWAT Team Ends Hours-Long Standoff Tuesday Night

On Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 6:38 p.m., Lincoln Police were called to 40th and St. Paul Avenue on a report of a man with a gun.  Officers spoke with a woman and a witness who said that a 40 year old man had threatened to burn down the apartment complex and threatened to shoot his way inside the building if they did not let him inside.   Fearing for their lives, the victim allowed the suspect inside the apartment.

The witness later fled the apartment and called 911.  Officers obtained a search warrant and served it with the assistance of the LPD SWAT team.

The suspect was extremely uncooperative, refused to obey police commands, and screamed for police officers to kill him.  Officers deployed a less lethal round which struck the suspect in the leg.  Officers also deployed a police service dog which bit the suspect on the right hand.

Officers safely took the man into custody without further incident.  He was taken to a local area hospital for medical attention to his right hand, two broken bones from the dog bite..  Officers safety rescued the victim and located a loaded Glock handgun inside the residence.

The suspect has not yet been released from the hospital.  Once released, he will be cited and lodged for Terroristic Threats, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, First Degree False Imprisonment,, and 3rd Degree Domestic Assault.
