Lincoln Police were called to Akala Jewelry at 4230 South 33rd Street at 2:23 a.m. on January 4th to investigate a burglary. When officers arrived they spoke with the owner who said someone had smashed the front window and entered the business. The owner is currently taking inventory to determine what is missing. Damage to the building is estimated at $300. Officers processed the scene for digital and other evidence.
At 3:37 a.m., officers were called to Lin Jewelers at 1265 South Cotner Boulevard to investigate another burglary report. Officers spoke to the owner who said he had been sleeping in his office when he heard breaking glass and the front windows of the business had been broken. That was followed by the smashing of display cases. The suspect took approximately $2,000 worth of jewelry and caused an estimated $2,500 in damage to the building and contents inside. Officers processed that scene for evidence.
Both investigations are ongoing. It has not yet been determined if the two burglaries are related.
