An 18 year is in custody in connection to gunshots fired on December 19th near 2800 Homeland Place. At 1 a.m. there were reports of gunshots. Police arrived and found a house with damage from bullets. The garage door was open and police entered the home but no one was inside. The homeowners were not home but did say adult children did stay there.
As the investigation continued it was determined at Justin Smith and two other people were inside the home at the time. Two cars arrived with people intending to fight. Police determined that one shot was fired by Smith from inside the home at those in the vehicles. At least one person in one of the vehicles fired shots back at the house hitting the building several times.
Smith was arrested near 44th and C on Tuesday, January 6th at 6 p.m. He was booked on a number of weapons charges including possession of a firearm by a prohibited juvenile offender.
Smith was not a relative of the homeowners. More arrests are expected.
