Former Lincoln City Attorney Bill Austin announced today that he is a candidate for an at-large seat on the Lincoln City Council.

“The City of Lincoln has been my home for 53 years,” Austin said. “My wife Lynda and I raised our two daughters in Lincoln. It is a great city in which to live, work, and raise a family. Living
in Lincoln has been a blessing and it’s not one we can take for granted,” Austin said.

Bill Austin graduated from McCook High School, graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the University of Nebraska College of Law. Upon graduation, Bill was employed
by the Lincoln City Law Department as a prosecutor.

He transferred to the civil division a yea-rand- a-half later. He was appointed as the Chief Assistant for the Civil Division and wasappointed as City Attorney by then-Lincoln Mayor Helen Boosalis. Bill served as City Attorney until 1999, at which time he entered private practice.

He currently practices law with the Blake|Austin Law Firm, specializing in administrative and governmental law.

“I’m running for the office of City Council, rather than running against anybody else in the race,” Austin said. “I want to focus on Lincoln being a ‘City for the Citizens’ as opposed to being a city with lots of extra bells and whistles. We need to protect public safety with good fire trucks, good and safe streets and neighborhoods, and good policing. For many years now in Lincoln, we have prioritized high-profile projects. We now need to return our focus to the basics, shore up our foundation, and put taxpayer dollars toward basic services without raising taxes,” Austin said.

“Having seen the inner-workings of Lincoln City Government for 20 years, I have a very good perspective of what the City’s priorities should be,” Austin said.
