A 38 year old man is facing numerous charges after being arrested on Tuesday, January 2nd. Around 6:30 p.m., an officer saw a 2005 Buick Rendezvous in the area of 70th and Francis Street squealing its tires while turning corners. Drawing the officer’s attention to the vehicle, the officer ran the license plate and found that the vehicle had been reported stolen.
As the officer followed the vehicle, it turned sharply and parked abruptly on the side of the road. The driver exited the vehicle and started to run away. The officer gave chase telling the driver to stop. The man eventually did stop running and complied with the officer as he was taken into custody. The officer confirmed the vehicle was stolen from York, Ne and the suspect that had been developed was, in fact, the driver, 38-year-old Charles Stuart.
When officers searched the vehicle, they located 19 debit/credit cards belonging to three different individuals. Ten identification cards and two social security cards were located and determined did not belong to Stuart either. Officers located a pill bottle with three different pill types inside. Eight of those were identified as Lorazepam which is a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. Also, inside the vehicle, officers found a baseball bat between the driver’s seat and center console and a knife with a 6-inch-long fixed blade in the coat pocket of a coat identified as Stuart’s.
Stuart was arrested for felony Theft by Unlawful Taking, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Financial Transaction Device, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Officers are continuing to work to identify owners of the property found in the vehicle.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
