Lincoln Electric System officials provided a community update Tuesday morning. Kevin Wailes, CEO of LES, says more than 12,000 customers were effected. Their power supplier, SPP, asked LES yesterday to dump 10 megawatts, which is about three thousand customers. By 7 this morning, Wailes says they were asked to dump 40 megawatts. The outages lasted from 30 to 60 minutes between 6:45 and 10:15.
“Really at this point, we believe that looking at where the weather is going, we’re optimistic that we’re not going to see any rolling blackouts today and since the temperatures are coming up tomorrow we’re hoping that’s true tomorrow too,” Wailes said.
He said he can’t be certain of that fact as SPP could ask for another interruption in services. Wailes added if you’re power got cut once already it’s unlikely, but not impossible, it will happen in the next 36 hours.

The LES map shows there are no rolling blackouts.
At this time, LES has paused rotating outages, with no current requirements from the SPP. We continue to ask businesses and households to voluntarily conserve energy where possible. If additional rotating outages become necessary, we will continue providing (1/2)

From LES:
LES has been instructed to shed load by the Southwest Power Pool. Our substations impacted for outages are in the areas of 93rd and O streets and 17th and Holdrege streets. Our tech team has made the needed adjustments to show the next area of controlled outages on the outage map at LES.com.
Rotating outages, also known as rolling blackouts, are controlled, temporary interruptions of electricity that reduce demand on the system. They are typically limited to 30 to 60 minutes — but may last longer — before being rotated to another location. Customers may experience an outage more than once in the next 36 hours. Locations of controlled outages are determined by load shed requirements from SPP, which happens in minutes.
If you are without power for more than one hour, it may be an outage outside of this situation. Please report your outage at LES.com/report or 1-888-365-2412. If you require medical devices or other technology, be sure to follow your backup plan.
Energy conservation is critical during this time. LES asks customers to continue to voluntarily and safely implement one or more energy-saving measures in your home or business listed on LES.com. Updates will be provided on LES’ Facebook and Twitter pages throughout the day and evening.
Tuesday, 7:05 am
Rolling blackouts are continuing in Lincoln. Right now they’re at 93rd and O and 17th and Holdrege. The earlier outage near South 10th and Arapahoe was due to a downed power line and NOT a blackout.
