Lincoln Fire & Rescue battled a three-alarm blaze around 5 Monday morning, March 15th at 4401 S 27th Street.  Crews reported heavy fire from the roof of the building.  Due to the size of the structure the fire was quickly upgraded to a three-alarm alert.

Fire damaged mostly the roof with interior smoke damage throughout the entire 3rd floor.  Damage of the interior was due to ceilings being knocked down to search for the fire that was in a hidden space between the ceilings and roof.  Forty to 50 residents were displaced without injury even though smoke alarms were not sounding.  That was due to the location of the fire in the attic area of the building.

The cause of the fire was determined electrical in nature.  Damage is estimated at $100,000.   The Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
