Nebraska takes two of three at Iowa

A three-game losing streak came to an end this weekend as Nebraska (7-4) closed with wins both Saturday and Sunday in Iowa City.

The Huskers dropped the series opener to the Iowa Friday 3-0 before bouncing back with wins of 10-8 and 13-8.

Cade Povich took the loss Friday. He pitched 6.0 innings, giving up three runs in the sixth despite six strikeouts and no walks on the day. The Huskers notched only three hits on the day.

Saturday saw Chance Hroch with a 7-1 lead after four, but the Hawkeyes posted seven in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 8-8. Braxton Bragg pitched 2.0 innings of relief for the win while Spencer Schwellenbach went 1.2 innings for his second save of the season.

Cam Chick hit two home runs in the second game of the series, including a grand slam that opened the scoring in the third. Max Anderson and Jack Steil also went yard.

Sunday saw no Nebraska pitcher go deeper than 2.2, that being starter Shay Shanaman who gave up four runs on four hits and five walks. Earning the win was Tyler Martin, who pitched 1.1 innings in relief.

Anderson and Luke Roskam both added home runs as the Huskers racked up 11 hits on the day, never trailing after a six run third inning.

Nebraska hosts Minnesota for four games this next weekend in the home-opening series.
