With a 7 – 0 vote by the Lincoln City Council, LFR has a new fire chief

The council agreed with Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s nomination for the position and acting chief Dave Engler will official take the post on April 29th.

Engler is a 25 year veteran of the department and worked his way through the ranks as a firefighter- paramedic to  battalion chief. He accepted the acting chief position in December of 2020 following the retirement of Michael DeSpain.

Mayor Gaylor Baird introduced him to the Council Monday afternoon saying, “He has really taken an active role and impressed me and my team by reaching out to other department leaders to look for innovative solutions that help deliver services to our community. He is a very dedicated public servant who has been with the department for many years that included union leadership. It included being battalion chief.”

Engler told the council, “It has been an amazing career. It is an amazing city to work in because of everyone in the city and the elected officials that support the things that we do. The reason it is excellent is because of a great community. We have a great workforce that is committed to doing its job everyday. That makes this a real pleasure. I really appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to this opportunity.”

Council members also spoke welcoming Engler to the post.
