An unusual accident around 7 a.m. Saturday morning sent police to the alley in the 200 block of S 27th Street.  Officers spotted the 50 year old driver who was not able to provide identification or paperwork for the vehicle.  The 2012 Chevy Equinox did not have license plates and a check showed the driver had purchased the vehicle in September of 2019 but never registered it.

The drier argued with officers but was eventually cited and released for negligent driving, improper registration and operating a motor vehicle while not in personal possession of a driver’s license.  Damage to the fence and garage was $1,500.

As the driver backed away from the fence, officers saw the vehicle accelerate quickly, between 20 and 30 miles per hour in reverse down the alley before hitting a garage.  Damage to that building is estimated at $5,000.

Officers again contacted the driver who refused to get out of the vehicle, locked and unlocked the doors to prevent officers from entering.  She was also seen holding a dog and laughing.  Eventually officers were able to open an unlocked door and remove the driver.  She then threatened officers and kicked at them as she was taken into custody.

The driver was first taken to a hospital to be checked out before she was taken to jail.  She was arrested for resisting an officer, failure to comply with a police order and for willful reckless driving.
