LFR says fire pits are being blamed for a pair of fires this weekend. On Sunday morning around 6:30 Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded to 1820 Spring Meadow Dr. on the report of a house fire. LFR’s Nancy Crist says when they arrived, the back of the home was fully engulfed in flames. All of the family members made it out of the home safely. She says there had been a fire pit on the wood deck which ultimately caused the fire. The home is a total loss.
On Monday morning just before 6:00 a.m. firefighters were called to a home at 2900 S Folsom St on the report of a detached garage on fire. The garage was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. There was a fire pit located next to the garage that had been used the previous evening.
Crist reminds residents that permanent fixture fire pits have to be at least 25 feet from any home, garage or fence. She says a water source needs to be next to the fire pit. Movable fire pits have to be at least 20 feet from a structure.
