Lincoln Police have arrested a man they say tried to swallow bags of drugs as he ran from officers early Tuesday morning.  At around 5:20 a.m. officers observed a vehicle near North 27th Street and Cornhusker Highway. Officer Luke Bonkiewicz says officers saw that the vehicle had broken out taillights.

They learned that the driver had a 15-year revoked driver’s license.  Officers stopped the vehicle in the 2600 block of Cornhusker Highway and attempted to contact the driver, 39 year old Marlo Jones.

Bonkiewicz says as officers were walking up to the vehicle, Jones got out and began running from officers despite commands to stop. As he ran, police say Jones discarded a glass bottle of alcohol and began trying to swallow plastic baggies containing a powdery substance.

Officers apprehended Jones and recovered the 6 plastic baggies containing a total of 14.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine.  Jones was booked for Possession with Intent to Deliver , Tampering with Physical Evidence, Resisting Arrest, Driving During Revocation, Obstructing a Police Officer,  Possession of Open Alcohol Container  and No Taillights.
