City Announces Water Usage Restriction Plan To Address Historic Drought

By Chase Porter Jun 1, 2023 | 11:17 AM

The City of Lincoln has announced a water management plan to ensure water remains available for the community’s needs. Due to extreme drought conditions in Lancaster County, the City is asking community members to follow the City’s voluntary water conservation plan that goes into effect at 5 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2023.

Dry conditions have depleted the aquifer that supplies Lincoln’s wellfield to only 65% of capacity and Platte River flows are at their lowest since 1956. Voluntary water conservation is the first phase of the City’s Water Management Plan which emphasizes outdoor water conservation as the primary management tool. Property owners are encouraged to follow their designated watering days listed below and in the Water Conservation Guidelines.

The City of Lincoln encourages no outdoor water use on Mondays as a period to replenish Lincoln’s water supply.

Property owners are encouraged to water only when needed on designated watering days. For questions related to Lincoln’s water conservation efforts, Lincoln Water System has team members on hand during business hours to assist. Call the Lincoln Water System Call Center at 402-441-1212. Their office is open 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday. More information is available online at lincoln.ne.gov.
