As summer draws to a close, kids are going back to school and the Husker Football season is just around the corner. Lincoln Police say if you don’t drive sober there is a good chance you will be pulled over.
LPD will be conducting a special enforcement campaign through August 31 that focuses on drunk and drug impaired drivers. Additional officers will be on the streets conducting high visibility traffic enforcement to help deter impaired driving.
Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow says so far this year 14 people have been killed in 13 crashes. In three of those fatal crashes the driver was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“Driving impaired is a choice and is a crime that is 100 percent preventable,” Morrow says. LPD reminds residents to not drink or use any amount of drugs if you plan to get behind the wheel. If you are impaired, use a designated driver, taxi or a ride-share service.
The enforcement campaign is made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
