No. 2 LSU rallies to down Husker baseball

No. 2 LSU erased an early five-run deficit to defeat Nebraska baseball, 11-6, Saturday, in the Frisco Collegiate Baseball Classic in Frisco, Texas. The loss drops the Huskers to 1-1 on the weekend and 4-5 on the season.

It started well for Nebraska. Cayden Brumbaugh drove in a with a single through the left side in the bottom of the first. Cael Frost followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0, NU, in the first inning. Nebraska tacked on runs in the second and third innings to push the lead to 5-0.

But the Tigers responded. Three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth cut Nebraska’s lead to 5-4. Then LSU broke through for a six-run outburst in the seventh to take the lead, 10-5. After the Huskers tallied a run in the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers added an insurance run to build the lead to the six-run final margin.

Anthony Eyanson (2-0) earned the win on the mound, stabilizing after early trouble to strike out seven in six innings. Carson Jasa (0-1) took the loss out of the Nebraska bullpen, allowing three earned runs in an inning of relief. Josh Pearson led the LSU offense, hitting 4-for-5 with three doubles and an RBI. Steven Milam added a 3-for-6 showing at the plate with two RBI and a double. Cael Frost led the Huskers’ lineup, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Devin Nunez was 3-for-5 as well.

Nebraska will close its weekend in Frisco, Texas, Sunday against former Big 12 rival Kansas State. Pregame coverage begins at 10:30 a.m. with first pitch at 11 a.m. on KLIN.
