An Omaha man has been arrested on his 4th DUI charge following a brief pursuit Wednesday night.

A Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) trooper saw a truck failing to maintain its lane on Highway 75 near downtown Omaha around 11:45 p.m. The trooper began to chase the driver after he refused to pull over and began driving faster.

Reaching speeds near 95 mph, the driver continued recklessly for about two miles before slowing and exiting onto Ames Avenue. At that point, the trooper executed a PIT maneuver, nudging the vehicle’s rear and causing it to spin out and stop.

NSP says two passengers exited the vehicle immediately and cooperated with troopers while the driver initially refused to follow commands. Several minutes passed, and the driver voluntarily exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.

The driver, 25-year-old Matthew Silvers of Omaha, was arrested for DUI, flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving with a revoked license, obstructing a peace officer, and failure to obey a lawful order. This was Silvers 4th DUI offence and he was lodged in Douglas County Corrections.
