Lincoln Police have made an arrest in connection to a Sunday evening beating which sent a man to the hospital with fractures to his face and jaw.
Around 6:30 p.m. on April 27, officers were called to the area of S. 17th and Washington streets on a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, the 43-year-old victim was found bleeding and suffering from multiple facial injuries. He was taken to the hospital.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video that captured the incident and what lead up to it. LPD says the victim and the suspect were talking in the alley. As the victim tried to leave, a vehicle approached, and a person got out. The driver and the suspect then began to repeatedly punch and kick the victim. The suspect was seen holding an object which looked like a handgun and using it to strike the victim in the head.
40-year-old Richard Schaub of Lincoln was identified by police as the suspect. The LPD SWAT Team served a search warrant at Schaub’s apartment on Wednesday, April 30, where he was detained without incident. Investigators located a switchblade knife on his person, a loaded handgun, a baggie of suspected narcotics powder, a scale and a large amount of cash.
Schaub was taken to the Lancaster County Jail for multiple charges, including 1st degree assault, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and drug charges.
The investigation is ongoing, and LPD is still looking for the second individual involved. Anyone with information is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
