Open House For Lincoln Fire and Rescue Station 8 Set For Saturday

By Tom Stanton May 2, 2025 | 2:29 PM

Lincoln Fire and Rescue will be opening the doors to the public Saturday morning during an open house for Station 8.  Firefighters returned to the newly completed station 8 near 17th and Van Dorn in February.

LFR says there will be a number of fun family activities, including a technical rope rescue simulation, high performance CPR demonstration, hands only CPR demonstrations, photos with Sparky the fire dog and station tours with LFR souvenirs and Firehouse Subs kids meals coupons.

Attendees will also be able to check out all of the fire vehicles.  The public is asked to park on nearby residential streets and to use caution crossing Van Dorn and 17th streets.  The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The new station replaces the original built in 1958.  It houses 10 firefighters and four apparatus bays, which hold one engine, one truck and one medic unit.  The 16,000 square foot station includes larger drive-through bays that eliminate the need to back in vehicles and an additional bay to house specialized equipment and individual sleeping quarters to support a modern workforce.
