A California man has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for his role in mailing methamphetamine to Nebraska.
Trevor Sands, 51, of Culver City, California, was sentenced May 1 in federal court in Lincoln for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. U.S. District Judge Susan Bazis handed down a 57-month prison sentence, to be followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Investigators with the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force determined Sands was helping ship meth from California to at least two individuals in Nebraska. Authorities intercepted four packages between May and September 2022, one of which was confirmed to contain a half-pound of meth. Others ranged from a quarter-pound to a full pound.
A cooperating witness identified Sands as the sender of a package intercepted in Ulysses, Nebraska. His fingerprint was found on one parcel, and surveillance video showed him mailing at least one of the others.
In February 2023, authorities searched Sands’ home in Culver City and found methamphetamine. He later admitted to working with others to distribute the drug and mail it to Nebraska.
