The sixth-place finisher in last week’s Lincoln City Council election was cited by Lincoln Police on Friday for electioneering.

According to LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas, on election day (May 6), 56-year-old Republican City Council candidate Aurang Zeb of Lincoln entered his polling place at Pound Middle School and began taking a video of himself, saying “Vote for me, Vote for Zeb” which was later posted to his Facebook page.

The Election Commission Inspector contacted police after learning of the incident. On May 9, Zeb he was cited and released for Electioneering, a Class V misdemeanor, which is the least serious of the misdemeanor classes and carries a maximum penalty of a $100 fine.

State law prohibits any advocacy, for or against any ballot measure, within 200 feet of any polling place or building designated for voters to cast ballots.

The video has since been removed from Zeb’s Facebook page.
