A south Lincoln family lost their dog in a house fire over the noon hour Thursday. LFR Public Information officer MJ Lierman says crews encountered smoke when they arrived at the home near 96th and Old Cheney around 12:15.
“They had been cooking with grease and had left it unattended,” says LFR Public Information officer MJ Lierman. “The fire was contained to the kitchen area and smoke filled the entire house.” She says the three residents evacuated, but their dog was left inside.
“The dog was not located until crews were able to find him, and unfortunately, he didn’t make it.” Lierman says the dog died of smoke inhalation. Damages are still being added up and the Red Cross is assisting the family in relocating.
