Husker fans will soon be able to enjoy a cold beer while watching University of Nebraska sporting events. The City Council unanimously voted Monday to approve Aramark’s application for liquor licenses at Memorial Stadium, Devaney Sports Center and Hibner Stadium.
The University of Nebraska selected Aramark to be the concession provider in January and signed a 10-year contract with Aramark. They will handle all food and drink options for all three venues. City Councilman Bennie Shobe is one of three members who serve on an internal liquor committee.
“We had a meeting with representatives from the university and they laid out a plan and addressed some of out questions,” Shobe says. “We’re confident they have a plan in place to protect the city, to serve the consumers inside the stadiums and facilities and make it a fun experience and a safe experience for everyone.”
Tim O’Neil is the attorney representing Aramark. “I can honestly say this is the most experienced applicant I’ve ever represented. We’ve worked very hard in bringing this to fruition with the university,” McNeil says. “They bring an experience level I just haven’t seen before, of this type of venue.”
The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission will have to approve the liquor license applications. Aramark operates in eight NFL stadiums, four NBA arenas, eight National League baseball stadiums, four NHL arenas, 16 minor league sports facilities and 23 college facilities.
