No serious injuries were reported after a wild scene late Saturday night. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says it began around 10:20 p.m. when a white Kia Soul crashed into a tree and light pole in the front yard of a home near 40th and J Streets.
“Neighbors told officers they heard the crash from inside their homes but it was unoccupied by the time they came outside and they did not see anyone leave the crash scene,” Thomas says. “The vehicle had just fled from a traffic stop at 45th and J streets before crashing.”
Thomas says the officer who conducted the traffic stop then found a gray 2020 Hyundai Elantra in the middle of S. 40th about a block north from the Kia’s location with heavy rear end damage. “The 19-year-old female driver from Norfolk told the officer she had been T-boned by another vehicle, had minor injuries to her back and ribs and went to the hospital in a personal vehicle,” Thomas says.
It’s believed the Kia hit the Hyundai in between the attempted traffic stop and crashing into the tree.
