Columbus Police say a shooting at the Walmart store on east 23rd Street Tuesday night has turned deadly.  Police responded to the scene 6:20 p.m. after getting reports of a shooting.   Upon arrival they discovered a man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers administered emergency aid until medics from Columbus Fire Department arrived.  In an update Wednesday afternoon police identified the victim as 42-year-old Anhil David Mirabal Hernandez of Columbus.

He was transported to Columbus Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  Investigators say the suspect, 25-year-old Manuel Alejandro Mesa Cabrera, turned himself in at the Columbus Police Department shortly after the shooting.

Investigators later confirmed that Cabrera is the stepson of the victim. Cabrera was arrested and booked into the Platte County Detention Facility on charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony. The case remains under investigation.
