Lincoln Police have made a arrest in connection with a fire that destroyed three vehicles and damaged a fourth in the parking lot of the College of Hair Design near 91st and Andermatt Drive on May 15.
“A silver 2013 Cadillac Escalade was determined to be the ignition source by the LFR Fire Investigator,” says LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas. “31-year-old Christal Curry of Lincoln was arrested on Tuesday at her home and taken to the Lancaster County Jail.”
She was booked for third degree arson, criminal mischief and false reporting. The fire caused a total of $81,000 in damage. “The Cadillac was reported stolen to LPD shortly after the fire,” Thomas says.
Police were told Curry had rented the vehicle in another state and it had recently been involved in a crash. It was scheduled to be returned later that same day. “During the course of the investigation, officers learned Curry had taken the vehicle into a local auto body repair shop three days before the fire trying to get the vehicle fixed.” Thomas says Curry did not end up having any work done on the vehicle due to the significant cost.
“Surveillance video obtained from a nearby businesses also showed Curry driving to the parking lot on May 15, backing the vehicle into a stall and then running up the road away from the area before getting into another vehicle driven by another woman and leaving the scene.
