The Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame will add five new members when this year’s class is officially inducted on Nov. 1 at the football game against USC. Aaron Taylor (football), Lisa Reitsma (volleyball), Stephanie Thater (volleyball), Kevin Davis (men’s gymnastics) and Diandra Hyman (bowling) are the newest members of the hall of fame, according to an announcement from the NU Athletic Department Thursday.
Taylor is the only Husker football player to earn All-America honors at two positions. After being recognized as an All-American center in 1996, Taylor earned All-America honors at offensive guard in 1997, as he also won the Outland Trophy and helped pave the way to Nebraska’s third national championship in four years. Taylor played in every game of the 1994 national championship season as a backup lineman, then took over as the starting left guard for the 1995 national champions, played center in 1996 before moving back to left guard for 1997.
Reitsma was a three-time All-American at outside hitter for the Huskers while pushing Nebraska to its first national championship in 1995, her sophomore year. She piled up 1,600 career kills and still holds the Huskers’ single-season kills record with 611 in 1996, her junior season in which she earned Big 12 Player of the Year.
Thater was a three-time All-American and two-time Big Eight Player of the Year at middle blocker from 1989-1992. She set a then-school record with 197 blocks in 1990, her first year as a starter. She left NU with the school record in career blocks with 592, and her jersey No. 2 was retired in 2010.
Davis was a three-time individual national champion and led Husker men’s gymnastics to the national championship in 1988. He earned seven All-America honors and 28 individual titles through his career. Davis was a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic team.
Hyman earned National Collegiate Bowler of the Year in 2000, her second season and the third season of Nebraska bowling as a varsity program. She led the Huskers to national championships in 1999 and 2002.
