At approximately 2:35 a.m. today, a trooper saw a Toyota Rav4 speeding with no license plates on West ‘O’ Street in Lincoln. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated and fled westbound. The trooper initiated a pursuit.

After approximately five minutes, near NW 98th street, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the ditch. The driver then fled on foot northbound into a wooded area. Lincoln police officers and Lancaster County deputies responded to assist in searching for the suspect.

After searching for approximately three hours, a trooper located the suspect and took him into custody without further incident. The driver, an 18-year-old male from Grand Island, was lodged in Lancaster County Jail for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstructing a peace officer, no operator’s license, leaving the scene of a crash, and numerous traffic violations.
