Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews responded to a two-alarm fire at Affordable Storage near Southwest 6th and W. ‘A’ Street just before 9:00 Monday night. “They had reports of a fire in a single storage unit, however the fire was spreading quickly,” says LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman.
She says the fire reached the attic space and crews were able to knock it down quickly. Lierman says a tenant was cutting metal that produced sparks that ignited some flammable liquids. The fire was mainly contained to one unit, but 16 others sustained smoke damage.
The fire caused about $150,000 damage to the building and $75,000 to contents, but Lierman says the damage totals could go higher. No injuries were reported and LFR crews were on scene for nearly three hours.
