Lincoln Police are investigating after a person was hit by a pickup truck around 3:20 Wednesday morning near 53rd and Normal. LPD says a witness said she was eastbound on Normal when she saw car parts in the roadway.
The woman says she then saw a bloodied man laying in the street trying to push himself up. Officers arrived on the scene and found a red Toyota Tacoma with damage to the front end that matched the pieces on the ground.
The driver told police he had turned off 56th Street to go westbound on Normal Blvd when he thought he saw someone in the roadway, but was unable to stop and collided with the pedestrian. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the driver of the pickup was under the influence of alcohol. Thomas says the preliminary blood test was .20, more than two times the legal limit.
After undergoing observation, Thomas says the suspect was allowed to go home and investigators will follow up at a later date. “In a lot of these investigations, the actual citation or potential arrest comes later because they have to work through the entire case so the suspect is currently not in custody in any capacity.”
The victim suffered serious injuries.
