Gov. Jim Pillen has issued an emergency proclamation allowing for the rapid deployment of Nebraska National Guard troops and additional state law enforcement ahead of planned protests this weekend, including in Nebraska.
The declaration comes in response to civil unrest in other parts of the country following recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. It enables quicker activation of Guard personnel—shortening the normal 12- to 24-hour response window—should demonstrations escalate and pose a threat to public safety or property.
National Guard members and Nebraska State Troopers will be on standby, particularly around the College World Series in Omaha.
“Free speech will be respected and protected in Nebraska,” Pillen said. “But the lawlessness, chaos, and rioting seen in other cities in past weeks will not be tolerated here.”
The proclamation ensures state officials are ready to assist local agencies in maintaining security during any demonstrations. Read the proclamation below.
