Two teenagers are in the hospital after being shot around 5:45 Friday morning a block north of 11th and Van Dorn. LPD Assistant Chief Jason Stille says when officers arrived they found a 14-year-old boy lying in the middle of Hill between 11th & 12th Streets.
“It appears he sustained a bullet strike to the buttocks and a calf,” Stille says. “Officers ended up treating the victim and ultimately he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.” Stille says he is in serious condition.
A short time later Stille says they learned private citizens drove a 15-year-old boy to a hospital with wounds to the upper body. Those injuries are considered life-threatening. Stille says two guns were found on the ground near the 14-year-old victim, who made the call to 911 to report the shooting.
“14 and 15, you do not expect them to be injured by gunfire. It’s very troubling,” Stille says. Police found at least five shell casings at the scene and there are no reports of any vehicles or homes being struck.
Investigators are canvassing the neighborhood and gathering evidence. They are also interviewing people who may have information regarding the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
