Two Lincoln construction companies are among the three bids that were submitted to the state for a new 1,512 bed prison that will replace the Nebraska State Penitentiary.  The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services is in the process of reviewing the bids, which were received by the June 3rd deadline.

Bid were submitted by Hausmann Construction of Lincoln, a joint venture between Sampson Construction of Lincoln and Caddell Construction of Alabama and another joint venture between MCL Construction of Papillion and Clark Construction of Virginia.

“From day one, our engineering team has approached this project the Nebraska way, focusing on fiscal responsibility, while building a facility that will support the needs of our state,” says NDCS Director Rob Jeffreys. “All of the bids received will keep this project within the proposed budget and the funding appropriated by the Legislature. We look forward to launching construction and appreciate all Nebraskans who have supported this rehabilitation-focused facility.”

As is the general practice for NDCS engineering projects, there is a 40-day bid evaluation period from the bid due date. During this time, bids are reviewed and an intent to award is signed with the selected bidder. When the intent to award is signed, bid numbers will become public information.

The new prison will be built on a 300-acre site north of I-80 near 70th Street. Ground was broken on the new facility last August.
